How to Pump Bike Tires Up

How to pump bike tires up.

There are three main ways of pumping up bike tires the first is using a manual pump the second is using a bike compressor the third is using a portable air supply pump.

Using a manual pump

First you screw off the valve caps on the bike tire and get the nozzle of the pump and put it on the valve. Then you pump by pushing the pump handle up and down. It is helpful to have a psi gauge so you can tell when to stop but if you don't push down on the tires and if they don't move then they are pumped up enough. The psi should be on the side of the tires of the bike. Once you have got the tire full take the pump nozzle off the valve and screw the valve cap back on.

Using a bike compressor

Using a bike compressor is much the same as using a manual pump except you don't have to pump. So instead when the nozzle of the pump is on the valve just flick the switch and it will pump it up for you and when you'r happy with the amount of air that is in the tire just flick the switch again and it will turn off. Then take the pump nozzle off and put the valve cap back on.

Using a air supply pump

An air supply pump uses those little co2 capsules that look like mini soda bottles and people use them in there slug gun. Using a little attachment you can use them to full up your tire in about 6 seconds all you do is take of the valve cap and put it on valve and when the tire is full take the air supply pump off and put the valve cap on.

What is psi

Psi is usually used with gases it is a way of telling how much gas there is in an area. Psi stands for "pounds per square inch" so the more psi something has the more air it has. So if I had your average football which is usually around 13 psi compared to a oxygen welding bottle that has 2000 psi the oxygen bottle has more psi but also the container you keep the air in would have to be a lot stronger as it holds a lot more air.
